Pengalaman ngeri ini berlaku beberapa tahun dahulu disebuah kampung yang terpencil diselatan tanah air. Ketika itu aku sedang menunggu keputusan SPM dan bekerja sambilan sebagai kelindan lori. Aku bekerja dengan sebuah syarikat pengangkutan yang membawa barangan kesetiap tempat di Johor termasuklah kedaerah-daerah yang terpencil.

Pada suatu petang, lebihkurang jam 5:30 penyelia tempat aku bekerja mengarahkan aku mengikut seorang pemandu lori untuk menghantar barangan kesebuah kampung dipendalaman. Katanya barangan itu perlu dihantar hari itu juga. Memandangkan hari sudah lewat petang, pada mulanya aku agak keberatan kerana waktu habis bekerja sudah hampir iaitu jam 6:00. Aku diberitahu yang gaji kami akan dibayar dua kali ganda untuk tugas yang kami lakukan. Aku terus setuju kerana kalau balik rumah pun, tidak ada apa-apa rancangan. Lebih baik aku bekerja, dapat juga menambah wang saku.

Perjalanan kami ke kampung tersebut mengambil masa selama dua jam. Kami sampai kedestinasi jam 7:30. Sayup-sayup kedengaran suara azan Maghrib. Setelah segala urusan selesai, hari sudah mula gelap. Kami singgah disebuah warung untuk mengisi perut. Keadaan dikampung itu agak berlainan sedikit dari tempat-tempat ini. Disitu suasananya sunyi, cuma sekali-sekala kelihatan motosikal lalu-lalang memecah kesunyian malam. Warung yang kami singgah itu pun menggunakan lampu gasolin. Mungkin bekalan elektrik belum sampai kekawasan ini, fikir hatiku. Tuan punya warung sedang berkemas-kemas untuk menutup kedai. Waktu menunjukkan jam 9:30.
